CPBS Teams Unite to Restore Independence Across the Globe

Imagine life without the use of one or both hands—simple tasks like eating, writing, or embracing a loved one become daunting challenges. For millions worldwide, especially in remote or underserved communities without access to healthcare, this struggle is a daily reality. Many have lost hope of regaining independence in basic activities like cooking or feeding themselves.

In 2024, our teams across Australia united for a powerful team-building initiative: Helping Hands. Through this program, we built prosthetic hands for people in need around the globe, offering not just restored function, but renewed independence, dignity, and hope.

Every prosthetic hand assembled throughout the year was destined to change a life, making our collective effort both transformative and deeply meaningful.

“Being part of this experience was truly special. Knowing the real impact of Helping Hands made the team building even more meaningful, and it felt like a natural extension of CPBS’s mission of care and collaboration.” – Grace

Keeping the activity a secret was harder than expected! Each of our offices took part during different months, with Queensland kicking things off in February and Adelaide wrapping up in July. That meant five months of secret-keeping, but the surprise made the experience even more rewarding.

When teams arrived, they were greeted by a facilitator from the Helping Hands Program who shared the mission and global impact of the initiative. Soon, the challenge began: groups were split into smaller teams and asked to assemble the prosthetic hands as quickly and precisely as possible.

But there was a twist. Our teams were asked to complete the task with the use of only one hand simulating the real-life challenges faced by people who would ultimately receive these devices. What started as a friendly competition quickly became a powerful lesson in resilience, creativity, and empathy.

Some of the roadblocks we had were, real parts put in wrong places, instructions were misread, mistakes had to be corrected, and teamwork was tested. Yet every obstacle was met with determination and laughter, reminding us that when we work together, incredible things is possible.

Although the activity was enjoyable and engaging, our team never lost sight of its deeper purpose. Every prosthetic hand we assembled had the potential to transform someone’s life. For us, this experience was a powerful reminder that teamwork extends far beyond our daily work—it’s about making a real difference for people in need. By participating, we saw how CPBS’s values of care and collaboration truly reach communities around the world.

“I really enjoyed the Helping Hands Team Building experience. It was inspiring to learn how the idea came together and the real impact it had on the people who received the hands. There’s a lot to be said about doing something for someone else, it always leaves me feeling happy and fulfilled, almost as if I’ve received a gift myself. That warm, fuzzy feeling is hard to describe, but it’s one of the best parts of giving back! I feel grateful to be working with a team that genuinely cares about making the world a better place and experiences like this remind me how important it is for all of us to look for ways to help others every day.” - Selina

We are proud to have played a role in restoring independence and dignity for many individuals around the world and in the process, strengthening our own bonds as colleagues and friends.
