Matthew – Director of Clinical Training

Matthew Spicer is a highly distinguished Psychologist and Board Approved Supervisor with over 25 years of experience, specialising in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) for individuals living with disabilities and complex needs.

As an NDIS registered Behaviour Support Practitioner and expert panel member, Matthew is a recognised leader in PBS and Trauma-Informed Practice. His extensive contributions include national and international presentations, published research, and influential work on Multi-Element Behaviour Support (MEBS) and innovative non-aversive crisis management strategies.

Throughout his career, he has held senior clinical management roles and successfully implemented MEBS strategies for over two decades. He is a leading expert in reducing restrictive practices, particularly through Non-Aversive Reactive Strategies and provides specialised training in Motivational Interviewing.

Current Role & Commitment

Currently, Matthew serves as the Director of Clinical Training at the Centre for Positive Behaviour Support. He is a comprehensively registered Psychologist, Board-Approved Supervisor, and Self-Assessed Advanced and Specialist-Level Behaviour Support Practitioner.

Matthew is deeply committed to improving the lives of individuals impacted by trauma and disability, their families, and support networks, advocating for compassion, social justice, and effective practice.

Dr. Becca Beights - Director of Research at the Centre for Positive Behaviour Support

Becca - Director of Research

Dr. Becca Beights is the Director of Research at the Centre for Positive Behaviour Support (CPBS). Based in Melbourne, Becca oversees research support for organisation initiatives, CPBS clinical research dissemination, and supervision and professional development for behaviour support practitioners (BCBA and CBA).

Becca’s academic qualifications include a doctorate (PhD) in Special Education with a concentration in autism and applied behaviour analysis from Texas Tech University and a masters (MS) in Clinical Psychology from Auburn University.

Prior to her role at CPBS, Becca worked as a Research Clinician at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and a Clinical Research Supervisor for students and practitioners at Texas Tech University. She was also the content matter expert for an Australian grant-funded workforce training project.

Research Interests & Mission

Becca’s interests and experiences emphasise collaboration, education, and person-centred practice. Her work focuses on the development and evaluation of behavioural assessment and intervention strategies.

Becca’s research interests emphasise ethical decision-making, technology-mediated approaches, and graduate-level teaching and training. Across all opportunities, Becca aims to embody the CPBS mission of caring action to improve lives in meaningful ways.

Alisha Banks - Advanced Behaviour Support Practitioner and Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA)

Alisha - Clinical Training Specialist

Alisha’s current role as Clinical Training Specialist is to support the clinical operations and continuous improvement of the whole organisation, offer internal consultation and support to our senior clinicians, coordinate our external supervision programme, support CPBSs research interests and dissemination and conduct internal and external training programmes.

Alisha is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), Certified Behaviour Analyst (CBA) and obtained a Master’s of Science, specialising in Applied Behaviour Analysis and Autism from The Sage Colleges in New York.

Alisha has extensive experience in applied behavioural intervention, including early intervention and positive behaviour support and constructional behaviour analysis. She has worked in a range of leadership and senior clinical roles as a behaviour analyst across both private and government organisations.

Specialisation and Passion at CPBS

Alisha currently specialises in clinical supervision and training at CPBS. She is passionate about disseminating evidence-based and ethical behaviour support practices and in equipping practitioners with the knowledge and skills to be effective supports for their participants.

Alisha’s work is crucial in helping CPBS achieve its mission of seeking to grow and develop the broader behaviour support sector to help those living with disability to be free from restraint, living positive and valued lives.
